Osterhus/Desmarais Hurl Combined 1-Hit Shutout of Westhampton

The Sag Harbor Whalers have had great pitching in the 2025 HCBL season, having already thrown two no-hitters this season. On Saturday at Mashashimuet Park, they had another amazing performance as the Whalers faced the Westhampton Aviators.

Eric Osterhaus (Fordham) threw five no-hit innings, only allowing one walk with five strikeouts, before turning things over to Derek Desmarais (Tufts), who didn’t allow a hit in the sixth inning. As Desmarais entered the seventh, the Whalers were three outs shy of their third no-hitter of the season and second against Westhampton on the year.

Desmarais, after allowing a leadoff walk to Andrew Grenert (Pima CC), would get the next two batters out. Desmarais would face Grant Dalton (Lackawanna), who would break up the Whalers’ chance for a third no-hitter with an infield single.

Desmarais would get the following batter, Grant Kennedy (Richmond), to ground out to third base to give the Whalers a combined one-hitter on the day.

The Whalers took control of the game early on, scoring five runs in the first inning and then adding a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Mario Cubello (St. John Fisher) and Matteo Cubello (St. Anselm) had a pair of RBI each for the Whalers in the win.

The Whalers will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday when they host the South Shore Clippers for a doubleheader at Mashashimuet Park. The Westhampton Aviators will play their first home game of the season at the Bridgehampton School on Sunday, playing the Shelter Island Bucks in a doubleheader.
