Ocean State Waves vs. Vermont Mountaineers

Final Score/7: Waves 8, Mountaineers 1

 

Montpelier, VT–The Ocean State Waves took the first game of the Sunday night doubleheader against the Vermont Mountaineers, 8-1. Ocean controlled the game on both sides, totaling 10 hits while giving up only two. 

 

The Waves started the scoring off in the bottom of the first when Matthew Brinker (Northeastern) doubled to center field to score Jack LaRose (UConn). Ocean State continued the scoring in the bottom of the third when Matthew Brinker added to his RBI total by launching a ball over the wall for a two-run home run.

 

Matthew Brinker continued to shine in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single to center field. 

 

The Mountaineers were able to add one run to the scoreboard when Foster Apple (Stetson) scored following a ground out in the top of the fifth. However, it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback as the Waves piled on the runs in the bottom half of the inning. Kayle Pisano (Oregon) was the first to score following a sacrifice fly. Jack LaRose added an RBI single and then came around to score following a Brandon DeGoti (Miami) single to left field.
 

The Ocean State Waves pitcher Bryce McKnight (Arizona) was credited with the win. The Mountaineers’ ace Ryan Brown (Mt. St. Mary’s) was issued a loss on the season.

North Adams SteepleCats vs. Bristol Blues

Final Score: Bristol 13, North Adams 5

Bristol, CT–Despite falling behind, two big innings propelled the Bristol Blues to a 13-5 victory over the North Adams SteepleCats on Sunday.

After a scoreless first three innings, North Adams jumped in front in the top of the fourth after Sean Stephenson (Iona) scored on a Nelphie Lopez (Stetson) double. JT Thompson (Rutgers) brought in the second run for North Adams in the fifth on a fielder's choice before Bristol responded in the bottom of the frame on a Joe Tiroly (Virginia) double, bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of the SteepleCats. 

 

In the sixth, North Adams managed another run on an Alex Mendes (Mount St. Mary’s) RBI ground out to extend the lead to two. But in the bottom of the frame, Bristol responded in a big way. CJ Egrie (Holy Cross) scored on a Jack Hopko (Rhode Island) sacrifice bunt, before a two-RBI single from Tiroly, a two-RBI double from Luke Nomura (Fairfield), and an RBI single from Scott Gell (Stony Brook) put Bristol in front 7-3. 

 

North Adams scored two in the top of the eighth to make it a 7-5 game, but were met with yet another six-spot from Bristol. Nomura, JT Landwehr (Portland), and Gianno Merlonghi (CCSU) had RBI singles in the inning, while Gell and Egrie both had productive outs, each recording an RBI themselves. Hopko then came home on a wild pitch to put the Blues comfortably in front, 13-5. Kyle Emmons (Penn St) ensured the SteepleCats wouldn’t have a big inning of their own, pitching a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth to pick up the save and secure Bristol’s 13th win of the season.

 

Bristol’s Randy Ramnarace (New Haven) earned the win, going two innings and allowing just two hits. Owen Crowe (Mount St. Mary’s) was issued the loss for North Adams.

 

With the win, the Blues jump to 13-8 and host the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks tomorrow at 6:30 pm. The SteepleCats drop their third game in a row and fall to 4-12, as they travel to take on the North Shore Navigators tomorrow at 6:05 pm.
