North Shore Navigators vs Keene SwampBats (Game One)

Final Score/7: Navigators 3, SwampBats 2

Lynn, MA — The North Shore Navigators picked up a big 3-2 win against the first-place Keene SwampBats Sunday afternoon in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader slate. Keene and North Shore battled all game long, with Michael Perazza (FAU) for the Navs breaking the deadlock for the walk-off win.

Keene opened up the scoring right away, as Jack Herring (East Carolina) capitalized on a walk to lead off the game. Xavier Perez (Houston) followed up with a single to make it first and second. The next batter, Chandler Tuupo (Charleston Southern), grounded into a fielder’s choice, but on that play, an error was made by the shortstop, which allowed Herring to score and put the SwampBats up 1-0.

In the home half of the third, North Shore started to get the offense going. Aidan Sengenberger (Seton Hall) and Conor Moriarty (Bowdoin College) singled to start the inning, and with runners on the corners, Sam Parks (Stonehill College) put the ball in play for a fielder’s choice that scored Sengenberger to tie the game at 1-1.

The SwampBats retook the lead quickly in the top of the fourth. Tuupo drew a leadoff walk, Ty Mainolfi (Boston College) singled, and Ryan Jaros (Rutgers) walked to load the bases for Keene with just one out. Zack Thompson (Gardner-Webb) took advantage of the opportunity, as he reached on a fielder’s choice and scored Tuupo in the process.

In the bottom of the inning, North Shore tied it up with just two batters. Alex Marot (Charleston Southern) started the inning off with a double, and Jaydon Aukai Kea (Vanderbilt) was quick to drive him in with a single to right field that knotted this game up 2-2.

The Navs ended up walking the game off in the bottom of the seventh inning. North Shore loaded up the bases with one out when Perazza came in as a pinch hitter and delivered. An RBI single to right won the game for the Navs, giving Colin Dowdle (Holy Cross) a win for a shutdown seventh inning. Meanwhile, Benjamin Shenosky (Penn St) took the loss for Keene.

The Navs and Keene will play game two of the doubleheader Sunday afternoon, with first pitch set for 4:15 p.m.

North Shore Navigators vs Keene SwampBats (Game Two)

Final Score/7: Navigators 6, SwampBats 2

Lynn, MA — The North Shore Navigators defeated the Keene SwampBats in game two of Sunday’s scheduled doubleheader by a score of 6-2. With the win, the Navigators sweep the two-game slate, and in this one, it was all about getting the bats going early.

Despite the early dominance from the Navigators, it was Keene who scored in the top of the first inning. With the bases loaded, Ty Mainolfi (Boston College) hit a sacrifice fly to right field that was deep enough to let Jack Herring (East Carolina) score from third and make it 1-0.

In the bottom of the inning, the Navigators began their outburst. Jack Gold (Pomona-Pitzer) started the inning with a double, followed by singles from both Ethan Wilson (Winthrop) and Davis Baker (UPenn) that scored Gold and tied the game. RBIs on a Jaydon Aukai Kea (Vanderbilt) single and a Sean Scanlon (Richmond) sac fly to center made it 3-1 after one inning.

North Shore added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-1. An error from the third baseman allowed one run to cross home, while the other was a RBI groundout from Wilson.

Despite scoring a run in the fourth on a Mainolfi RBI single to left, Keene didn’t have enough to come back against North Shore, as the game would end 6-2. John Whitney (Samford) got the win for the Navigators for five innings of two two-run ball (one earned), while John Malone gets credited with the loss for the SwampBats, going just two innings and allowing five runs (three earned).

Keene will look to rebound on Tuesday when it hosts the North Adams Steeplecats. North Shore will try to ride this momentum into their next matchup on Monday evening, also against the North Adams Steeplecats..

Final Score/7: Waves 2, Mountaineers 5

Montpelier, VT - The Vermont Mountaineers and Ocean State Waves split their doubleheader, with the Mountaineers taking game two 5-2 behind an 11-hit performance.

It was the Mountaineers who jumped out to the early lead with a four-run first inning. The scoring started with a Conlan Daniel (Wright State) RBI single to center field. This was followed up by a two-run single from Braeden Smith (Charleston), who then came around to score, capping off the early start from Vermont. However, the surge fizzled out as the Mountaineers were able to get three outs to secure the win.

Vermont’s Ace Adam Martin (Stonehill) was credited with the win, and his fellow Mountaineer,  Jayson Torres (Stetson), was given the save of the game. The Waves pitcher Teague Broadhead (Southern Mississippi) was given a loss on the season.
