Four Suns Selected to Play in 2025 FCSL All-Star Game
Date: Jul 4, 2025
Orlando, Fla. - The Squeeze lost their second series of the season against the Snappers as deja vu struck after another 5-3 loss at The First Academy on Thursday.
Another weather delay was brought upon the Squeeze, with lightning forcing this game to start a little under an hour later than scheduled.
Unlike the first matchup, this one took much longer to get the scoring started as neither side put any runs on the board until the bottom half of the fourth inning. It was a pitching duel and the first six batters of the game were retired in order.
Carter Daniel was solid in just his second start of the summer for Winter Garden. He struck out five batters in his four full innings of work, while only giving up three hits, two earned runs and four walks.
Four-baggers have been running rampant all series long for Orlando. In the fourth, after Grant Comeaux reached base safely, Hayden Gustavson (State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota) yanked a two run shot over the left field wall in a hurry to give the Snappers a 2-0 lead.
Once again, the Squeeze answered back in a big way in the very next inning. In the top half of the fifth, Brady White (Chico State) took advantage of a wild pitch and scored. Then, Jack Waddingham (Undecided) had his biggest moment of the season when belted a solo homer out into right to tie it up at two apiece halfway through the contest.
The back and forth action did not stop in the home half of the fifth inning. William Walburn (Jacksonville State) crossed home plate off of a wild pitch to give the Snappers the lead back at 3-2.
Unlike some of its other previous matchups, Winter Garden found some late-game magic to keep itself alive. With Gabriel Rodriguez (Warner) looming at third base, Michael Thomas (Edward Waters) hit a sacrifice fly deep enough into center field to allow Rodriguez to tie it up with only one inning remaining.
Both squads were not budging in the ninth and final inning of regulation, as they were each retired in order 1-2-3 to send it into extras.
With the international tie breaker rules in effect in the bottom of the tenth and a runner placed on second base, Orlando saw one of its biggest moments happen on their home field. Leadoff man Blake Fields (Miami Dade College) got every bit of a 1-2 pitch to hit a walkoff two run home run and end the game with another 5-3 win against the Squeeze for the Snappers.
Winter Garden will look to get its first win against Orlando on June 28 at home at Horizon High School at 6:30 p.m.
