Quarterfinal #3 - #2 DePaul University outlasts #7 UW Oshkosh in overtime:
In quarterfinal #3, the home DePaul University struck first at the 7:40 mark. Anthony Martirano was in the right spot at the right time to put home the rebound off of Brock Ash’s shot. The UW Oshkosh powerplay unit was the first to take the ice when Martirano found the inside of the penalty box for slashing at 15:42. UWO only got a couple of quality shots off before the penalty expired and the score remained 1-0. Trent Bachman would score, from mid slot, off a pass from Keith Wald with 39 seconds remaining before the first intermission to even the score at one.
DePaul came out of the locker room with pep to start the second period and had multiple looks to break the 1-1 tie but they were not able to convert. That all changed at 3:39 with a back and forth pass from Chris Lee to Billy Paschen that resulted in Paschen ringing the upper right post and somehow getting the puck over the goal line. The UWO team kept fighting and at 7:48 Liam Golden took a pass from Keith Wald, beating the DePaul defense into the zone, and wristed a shot past Asher Motew, low glove side. DePaul got their first shot at a powerplay at the 9:33 mark, however, they came up empty.
UWO went on the powerplay at 4:57 of the third period. With 26 seconds left in the man advantage Goden took a cross ice pass from Jake Stockbridge and buried it from the left dot to give UWO their first lead in the game. The back and forth continued and at 9:44 Martirano fired a pass from Ash up into the upper left corner, his second goal of the game. Matching minors at 13:17 lead to a 4-on-4 and opened up the ice for offensive opportunities. The goaltenders in each net stood tall and neither team was able to break the tie, which is where the score stood at the end of regulation play, 3-3, so it was off to overtime.
34 seconds into overtime a shot from the point by Josh Maloney bounced though traffic and under the glove of Evan Hetke as he was trying to corral it to give DePaul a berth in the semifinals.
