Quarterfinal #2 - #5 Marian University too much for #4 Aurora University:
Marian University struck first in Quarterfinal #2 when a feed from Aidan Tegart resulted in a breakaway for Tyler Studant, who wristed one home. Less than a minute later, at 4:15, Marian converted a 3-on-1 to take 2-0 lead. Scoring for Marian was Gavyn Galloway, with assists by Simon Ellingson and DJ Horne. The two early Marian goals put Aurora University on the defensive, but as the first period wore on they regained their footing and up and down the ice hockey took place. Face paced hockey continued until the 15:15 mark when Logan Graf took a feed from Carter Broton, who was in the right corner, and wristed home a shot just inside the blueline to give Marian a 3-0 lead. With 54 seconds left before the first intermission the Aurora defense misplayed a puck at their own blueline that was picked up by Easton Nick. Nick then went unabated into the zone and scored Marian’s fourth unanswered goal.

Back and forth action resumed as the second period commenced. At 6:08 Horne put home a shot from just inside the right face-off dot. Marian’s fifth goal precipitated a goaltender change for Aurora and Ryan Diaz came in to replace Skylar Coard. Devon Butler, moving right through the slot, let a loose a shot that rang the post and in, giving Marian a 6-0 lead at the 8:30 mark. The Marian offense did not let off the gas and at 15:28 scored goal number seven. Marian’s seventh goal was scored by Jason Vogler who wristed a shot from the top of the slot that made it through a screen and into the back of the net. At the 17:10 mark the game’s first penalty was called, a high sticking penalty on Shay Nolen, to give Aurora a man advantage. Aurora was not able to get any high quality opportunities and came up emptyhanded.

It took all of 27 seconds elapsing in the third period before Logan Graf would light the lamp with a shot through traffic, putting Marian up eight. Aurora finally stemmed the tide at the 4:17 mark when Joe Costello beat Tyler McArthur glove side as he cut through the slot. Marian got that goal back at the 6:33 mark when Studant pulled off a toe drag to give him room to fire a shot around an Aurora defender and into the back of the net. A tripping penalty on Aurora at 8:30 game Marian their first chance at a powerplay. The Aurora penalty kill stood strong and the score remained 9-1. A bing bang play off a feed from Patrick Gallavan allowed Tyler Heinz to flick a backhander past McArthur for Aurora’s second goal of the night at 15:30. Neither team scored over the time remaining and Marian came away with a 9-2 victory and a spot with #1 seed Concordia University WI in the semifinals.
