Gainesville Wins Second Straight Sunbelt Title

Gainesville, GA – In the Sunbelt Baseball League Championship, the Gol'Diggers secured their second consecutive victory with an impressive pitching display during game two.

During the first four innings, the Gol'Diggers' startng pitcher, Cole Munhall, was dominant. He allowed only one hit, walked one batter, and struck out five. Meanwhile, the Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots' starter, Will Turner, matched Munhall's performance for three innings, allowing only two hits and striking out four batters.

Corey Collins, the designated hitter for the Gol'Diggers, kicked off a two-run fourth inning by hittng a home run to right field. Riley Stanford then followed Collins with a hit, and David Lewis scored Stanford with a line-drive single to right field.

During the fifth inning, the Hoots had bases loaded with two outs and managed to force Munhall out of the game. However, they were unable to score as they grounded out to end the half-inning. The Hoots had another chance to score runs in the sixth inning with runners on first and third with two outs. Unfortunately, Carter Schmidt struck out and the opportunity was lost.

In the seventh inning, the Gol'Diggers scored two additional runs to secure their win. With a runner on second and Matthew Rose at bat, Rose hit the first pitch he saw to the right center wall for a triple, scoring one run. Rose then scored the second run of the inning on a wild pitch during Riley Stanford's turn at bat, bringing the score to four to zero in favor of Gainesville.

Maddox Thornton had an amazing performance on the mound. He struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh inning and two out of the three batters he faced in the eighth inning. Thornton came in to relieve Munhall with two outs in the fifth inning and pitched a total of three and one-third innings. He only gave up one hit and struck out seven batters, which led to him earning the win. In the ninth inning, Kyle Roper came in and struck out two of the three batters he faced, securing the Gainesville Gol'Diggers' second championship title. The Gol'Diggers' pitching staff was able to hold the strong Columbus lineup to only three hits and no runs while striking out a total of fifteen batters.

Corey Collins was named the MVP of the Sunbelt Baseball League championship series. He hit a massive home run during the game and had an impressive performance, going one for two with a home run and two walks. In the first game of the championship series, he also did well, going three for five with two runs.
