Clippers Crush Monarchs in Father’s Day Showdown
Garrett Pog - 6-19-23

It’s no wonder they’re 8-0.

The Muskegon Clippers walked into Sunday night as the best team in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, looking to further cement their dominance as their fans traveled by the dozens to watch them play on the road.

It didn’t take long for the Clippers to set sail.

They scored 5 runs in the early going, starting with a home run from lead-off bat Caleb Williams (3 AB, 1 H, 2 R), and finishing with a stolen run from Donovan Rinehart (2 AB, 1 H, 2 R). All 9 batters stepped into the batter’s box before the inning was over.

It continued in the 5th inning, when Nathan Riffe was subbed in and gave up 6 walks and a hit, while also throwing 5 wild pitches allowing for 7 earned runs to come in. Josh Castillo replaced him after that, and gave up 3 walks and a hit to allow 2 more runs to score in. It was a disastrous night for our pitchers, just one night after they had an outstanding performance in Muskegon.

The Monarchs (4-6) lost the game 14-2, concluding after the 7th inning due to a 10-Run Mercy Rule the GLSCL has in place. Both scores from the Monarchs came off of sacrifice fly balls.

The Monarchs are back for a 3-Game Home set against the Jet Box, Tuesday, June 20th-Thursday, June 22nd. You can catch all of those games live at Lake Trust Stadium, or on our various streaming platforms online. Michmonarchs.com has all the details.
