Monarchs Put Up Runs Early to Win Game 2 of Doubleheader
Garrett Pog - 6-17-23
You’d think a team would feel dejected by losing the opener of a doubleheader by a 10-Run Mercy Rule, 16-5. Instead, your Michigan Monarchs (4-4) shook the dust off, ready to get back to work just 30 minutes after the first game ended. As a result, the Monarchs won their second game 8-2 over Jet Box (1-7) on Friday at Lake Trust Stadium.
The Monarchs started off hot, scoring all 8 runs in the first 3 innings of the 7-inning game. Catcher Sam Thompson (4 AB, 3 H, 2 RBI) highlighted the night with a bases clearing triple to put the Monarchs up by 5 in the 2nd inning, further cementing that the catcher’s room in Howell is one to be feared. All 4 catchers for the Monarchs are hitting .250+ so far this season.
Wheeling and dealing on the mound was Quin Konuszewski (nicknamed “Quin Shove” by the team), who only allowed 2 hits and no runs in 3 ⅔ innings, while also striking out 4. Robert Klann also hit his stride, striking out 4 and allowing no hits or walks as he becomes the unofficial team closer for the time being.
The Jet Box only had 2 hits and 5 walks throughout the game, led by Michael Tchavdarov (3 AB, 1 BB, 1 R) who walked, then scored in the 5th inning. They were bailed out from allowing any more runs by Bryan Masterson Jr, who pitched 2 ⅓ innings after Dustin Cummins (2.2 IP, 10 H, 8 ER) gave up the loss early on.
Your Michigan Monarchs are back home on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18th at 7:05 pm against the Muskegon Clippers. You can catch the action live at Lake Trust Stadium at Cleary University, or streaming on michmonarchs.com.
