1027 days. That's how long it's been since the Victoria Blazers (or anyone in the Vancouver Island Lacrosse League) played a lacrosse game. Boy, are we ever glad to be back. COVID-19 absolutely sucks.

The dudes with good attitudes have a lot of adjustments to make after a season debut where 10 of 17 runners were new to the squad, but the pieces are certainly there. And while they spent way too much time in the penalty box, they left the hallowed halls of Archie Browning Sports Centre with a 6-4 win.
 

Leading the way offensively for the Blazers was newcomer Andrew McMillan with 3 goals. Veterans Luke Crowther and Jeremy Bell also chipped in with goals while also being huge parts of the Blazers penalty kill. Star goaltender Rob Wood kept the Arrows at bay to preserve the win.
 

The VILL season opener brought a raucous crowd to the building. And as usual, there were a few celebrities spotted in the crowd, including action star Steven Seagal. When asked for his thoughts on the game, Mr. Seagal slowly rolled up his newspaper, tucked it into a coat pocket, kicked a dandelion, then looked over to me and replied, “Sorry, my name isn't Steven. You must have me confused with someone else.”
 

The Blazers return to action tomorrow at 7:30 pm @ Archie Browning, when they get a long awaited chance at redemption taking on the defending VILL Champions the Cowichan Rats, the squad that defeated the Blazers in the 2019 VILL Championships all the way back 1027 days ago.
