The New Tecumseth Civics are proud to announce they added local champion goaltender Zach Levac to a contract for the upcoming 2021-2022 GMHL Season.
Levac, 2000 born, joins the Civics as one of the top Barrie born junior C goaltenders of the last 30 years. Statistically he is an elite level net minder, his all-time Win-Loss record stands at 65-26-0 with a Save Percentage of .924 and a Goals Against Average (GAA) of 2.85 across 93 appearances over parts the last 4 seasons with the Stayner Siskins, where he won a Division championship, and the Orillia Terriers.
Last season Levac skated with the Civics before he was set to lead the Schomberg Cougars in net before the season was eventually cancelled due to the pandemic.
Prior to that Levac spent the season in Orillia where he led the team to the playoffs and eventually a game 7 first round win over the Cougars. He finished that season in Orillia very much on the radar of Civics General Manager Jordan Richardson, enough so that the Civics secured his rights in this year’s GMHL Draft.
Richardson was excited to be adding Levac to the Civics net this season, “Zach is a player who has been on my radar for quite some time now and to finally get him signed is a huge win for us. I have heard nothing but great things about him from (Former Civics goaltender) TJ Sherwood and (Former Civics Coach) Jacob Bauchman and personally got a chance to see him in person last year at one of our skates. We are known to be one of the top places for goaltenders to come and play and adding Zach to our roster to lead the charge and help develop some of our young guys like Ethan is going to be an incredible opportunity.”
Levac spent his first two seasons with the Stayner Siskins, where Bauchman is the Head Coach. He developed into one of the top goaltenders in the league and led the Siskins to a pair of successful seasons from 2017-2019.
When asked himself about joining the team the 5’10” Levac was ready to be putting on the Civics Red, White and Blue, “I’m beyond excited to sign with the Civics for the 2021-22 season!! The Civics have always been a top program in the GMHL and I’m looking forward fighting for a championship with all the guys here in New Tec. I want to try and bring a tough work ethic and veteran leadership to the organization as well as do whatever it takes to give the boys a chance to win every night, and never stop fighting until the final buzzer sounds. I would love to help bring a championship back to New Tec and can’t wait to get started!”.
Levac has skated with many high profile goalie coaches during his time training starting off with CanGoal (The Canadian Goalie Academy) and now current Vegas Golden Knights goalie coach Mike Rosati, it was here where he trained alongside 2 Time GMHL Goalie of the Year and MVP Runner up TJ Sherwood as well as Civics goaltending consultant Tye Greschuk. More recently he has been skating Marc-Anthony Franco from Team Hockey Fit and has also been skating with and receiving shots from recent top NHL Draft picks alongside Redquest Goaltending.
Prior to his junior hockey career Levac played AAA for the North Central Predators U18 program, appearing in 26 games as the teams starter in 2016-2017
The Civics have long been a place recognized for recruiting and getting the most out of top tier goaltenders, including 4 of the past 7 goalie of the year award winners. We hope Zach is next in a long line of players who come in and help lead the Civics to championship contention on his way to developing and advancing, Civic Nation is ready and waiting for you Zach.
