Date: May 11, 2022
The Civics continue to announce player re-signings for the upcoming season and are proud to announce that talented scoring forward Savva Verbetskii has resigned with the team for the upcoming 2021-2022 season in New Tecumseth.
Verbetskii returns to the Civics following a strong rookie season where he turned heads in the GMHL in which he was 2nd in rookie scoring on the Civics, only 2nd to North Division rookie of the year Vadim Tsyrkunov. He accounted for 24 points (11G, 13A) in 40 games and added 3 goals on the power play, 1 while shorthanded and a game winning goal in his first season of junior hockey.
Verbetskii, the Yekaterinberg, Russia, native was excited to return to the Civics following a season of building chemistry with many of his returning teammates, “I am very happy that I will be playing for the Civics next season. I will try and play even better than last season so that we have even more chances to compete to win a Russell Cup Championship.
Prior to joining the Civics Verbetskii, who stands 5’8” came off a successful minor hockey career in Russia where he played for the Team YaNAO U18 team in the Russia U18 league scoring 12 points in 33 games following his time with the Yuzhny Ural Orsk U16 program in the U16 league.
GM Jordan Richardson can’t wait to have Verbetskii back on the ice this upcoming season, “Savva surprised a lot of people in his first season in Canada. He is a hard worker, never quits and scored some big goals for us last season. He will be looked upon for leadership next season; he is definitely a big piece coming back.”
Leadership is indeed what we are counting on you to bring back to Civic Nation Savva as a returning player and we are very happy you will be bringing your skills and your attitude back to New Tecumseth for the upcoming season.
