Contending teams are built from the net out, the Civics know that better than anyone having been home to 4 of the last 8 goalie of the year award winners and multiple All-Star goalies, to help make sure they are heading in the right direction the Civics are proud to announce the re-signing of elite level goaltender Chris Cabral for the upcoming 2020-2021 season.
In a year where he spent half the season learning from eventual 2019-2020 GMHL North Division Goalie of the Year Artur Veiber, Cabral really held his own and posted league and division leading numbers in every category. The 2002 born Cabral put up an awesome stat line finishing the season with 6 wins (only 3 Losses) including 3 shutouts (1st in the division and 2nd in the league), a 2.96 GAA (1st in the division and 3rd in the league among qualified goalies, also 4th best in Civics history) and a .919 SVS % (Which in addition to being 3rd in the league and 1st in the division is also tied for the 3rd highest mark in Civics history amongst qualified goaltenders).
General Manager Jordan Richardson was very excited to be bringing Cabral back on board this year, “ To be honest Chris is one of the most talented young goalies I have seen in the league, to be able to put up the numbers he did last season as a 17 year old was beyond impressive. He is definitely going to be given the opportunity to show off that skill again this year for us and we are very excited to officially be bringing him back.”
Cabral, from Brampton, Ontario, on rejoining New Tecumseth, “I’m excited to continue with the Civics for the 2020-21 season, I hope with hard work and consistency we can accomplish what we couldn’t last year. I am looking to establish myself as a legitimate #1 goalie and build off what I did last season in a year where we have championship aspirations.”
Civics assistant coach Matthew Senra who was instrumental in resigning his fellow Brampton native has high hopes for Cabral, “Chris is coming back with a full year of experience under his belt and I am confident he will remain with in the league leaders when it comes to stats. Chris is a talented goalie and proves it at every practice focusing on the little details and always looking for a challenge. After a season playing with him and now being one of his coaches I know how hard he works and his dedication to the game. We are very excited to bring Chris back as we looking to put a winning team on the ice this season.”
Civic Nation has been spoiled watching some of the best and most exciting goalies in league history and we hope you are next in line Chris, from all of us we extend you a warm welcome home and lets get ready to start the season off right.
