The New Tecumseth Civics are extremely proud of recently graduated Civics Kyle Weeks and Cody Woodward who have both signed their first pro contracts with Irbis-Skate Sofia in Bulgaria!

Weeks, from Springfield Vermont, and Woodward from Lewiston Maine, were both acquired by the Civic from the Temiscaming Titans at the trade deadline this season and both asked to play big roles as top pairing defenseman down the stretch and into the playoffs. Weeks appeared in 10 games for the Civics and was routinely counted on to provide shutdown play on the blue line, he also added 3 assists in the Civics efforts. Woodward appeared in 5 games and had 4 points including a pair of goals in a late season contest against the Knights of Meaford.

Both played the season before last with the Maine Wild of the NA3HL where Woodward had 7 Points and 145 PIM in 44 games and Weeks had 10 points and 49 PIM in 45 GP.

Before joining the Civics Woodward had 11 points through the Titans first 29 games while Weeks had chipped in with a goal and an assist, both were valued with the flexibility they had to be a presence as defenseman.

They will be joining the Irbis-Skate Sofia who are the reigning 4-time straight Bulgarian Champions and were well on their way to another championship season with an 8-0 season at the time of shutdown of play. Sofia also compete in yearly in the IIHF Continental Cup.

Woodward and Weeks both had great things to say about their time with the Civics and are excited about the upcoming season,

Weeks, “Being brought into New Tec towards the end of the season to play a key role was a privilege. It helped increase my hockey IQ and adaptability for sure as well as other crucial skills that’ll help me be a successful player at the next level. The coaching staff and management did a great job of expressing exactly what it was that they needed and expected from each player making it easy to go out and execute. For anyone who’s looking to play in the GMHL the Civics are an outstanding organization to play for. Going forward I don’t expect anything to be handed to me, I’m going to have to go in and work harder than I have my whole life to establish myself as a player that teams can trust to bring in and have success in any role they need me to play.”

Woodward, “I think joining the Civics late in the season helped me become a better player by learning a new system and coaching staff. Coming in to play a big role for the remainder of the season helped me reach my goal of going to the next level along with the help of the coaching staff in New Tec. I only have good things to say about the Civics program, definitely one of the top in GMHL!”

Civics GM Jordan Richardson had great things to say about the duo as they prepare to make the jump to the next level, “Weeksy and Woodsy were two of the best young men we had the opportunity of having on our team last season. When we acquired them in a trade we knew that we were getting two great players who had the flexibility of playing defense for us down the stretch, what we didn’t know was just how great of young men we would be adding to our organization. They came in and led on and off the ice and had instant chemistry in our locker-room, I am proud of both of these guys and know that they will work harder than ever to continue to be successful at the next level.”

Civic Nation is very proud of both of you young men and wish you the best as you continue to represent Civic Nation at the next level!
