The New Tecumseth Civics are proud to announce they have signed veteran defenseman Yoshtin Gunner to the roster for the upcoming 2020-2021 season
Gunner, from Mistissini, Quebec, joins the Civics for his final season of junior hockey after a strong 4 year junior career including 3 years in the GMHL with the Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks, Toronto Predators and the Wiarton Schooners, Gunner has suited up in 37 career GMHL contests and provided reliable play on the back end. This past season Gunner played in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) where he split the season between the Edson Aeros and the Barrhead Bombers where he played the majority of the season. He set a career high in Goals, Assists and Points with 9 Points (2G, 7A) in 25 games for Barrhead.
Gunner was excited when asked to join the Civics for his final junior hockey season, “The Civics were a great organization during my time in the GMHL and I am very excited to be joining the franchise for my final season of junior hockey, I think I can have a leadership role on the back end and help bring this team lots of on ice success. Talking with JR this offseason made it clear that the Civics are looking to compete for a championship and I am very excited to join them with what they are doing!”
Civics GM Jordan Richardson shared his thoughts on adding the 1999 born Gunner to his defense corps , “Yoshtin is a player that checks all the boxes when we look at him as a player, he has great size (6’3”) a good first pass, he has a very high hockey iq and makes sure to take care of his responsibilities in his own end. I had the pleasure of knowing his brother Troy who was a defenseman during my time in Rama and I think that Yoshtin can continue a legacy of being a hard hitting shutdown defenseman in his family. When we look back at the end of the season I truly believe Yoshtin will have had a career year.”
Civic Nation is proud to welcome you Yoshtin and can’t wait to see the success you and the team have this upcoming season. Welcome Aboard!
