2025-2026 D1 Schedule Released
Date: Jul 7, 2025
The Niagara University ACHA Purple Eagles would drop SUNY Cortland 14-0 while extending their current winning streak to either games and improving their record to 10-1 this season. Louis Wery would record his first shutout as a Purple Eagles en route to the victory.
The Purple Eagles would come out hard and aggressive playing sound offensively and defensively throughout the entire first period out shooting Cortland 31-2. Cortland’s best offensive opportunity came on a potential 2 on 1 that was broken up neatly by the backcheck of Ryan Peters. Goaltender Louis Wery wouldn’t face his first shot until 3 minutes into the period. The Purple Eagles poured on the offense with four different purple eagles finding the scoresheet with Nick Mandia being one of those goal scorers to get his first career ACHA Goal with the Purple Eagles.
The Second period would continue to be heavily dominated by the Purple Eagles, this time with some creative cycling by all four lines to contribute to the scoring in the second period. Carson Andreoli would rip a laser of a shot to beat the Cortland goalie glove side on a 2-1 to put the Purple Eagles up 8-0 and Noah Koenig would deliver a thundering check two minutes into the period to give NU some more energy to ride off. Niagara would shut down Cortland defensively keeping their offensive opportunities to the outside or clearing any shooting lanes for goaltender Louis Wery who would stop all five shots he faced in the second period. The Purple Eagles would outshoot Cortland 19-5 in the second stanza.
Niagara would complete the offensive onslaught by scoring three more times in the third period and continued offensive pressure by all four lines. Wery had to come up with some big saves in the third stanza to keep Cortland off the board and he did just that. Anthony Thurston would record a game high and career high five assists in the game, while David Christopher would add five more points (1 goal, 4 assists) to his ACHA point total.
The Purple Eagles will head to Oswego State University next Saturday, November 2nd for a 2PM puck drop at the Campus Center before returning home to Dwyer Arena for another 2PM matinee against the Lakers.
