Almaguin Spartans @ New Tecumseth Civics

9.26.19- Civics 7, Spartans 1

A three goal third period flurry and an impressive near 12 minute penalty kill in the second helped send the New Tecumseth Civics on their way as they went on to conquer the Spartans in a GMHL encounter Thursday at New Tec Rec.

It was the Civics defensive leader Mikhail Kornilov who opened up the scoring in this one just over 2 minutes into the first period, by the end of the frame the games third star Vadim Shatunov would add the eventual game winning goal off assists from Roman Kulakov and Emils Erglis.

In the second period the Civics were unable to stay out of trouble with a man in the box near constantly from the 3:30 mark until the 15 mark in the frame. Despite the penalty trouble the Civics were able to add 2 more to their total as Lane Knapp scored on a 4 on 4 opportunity and then Civics captain (and second star of the game) Riley Nadeau scored on a breakaway shorthanded chance.

Nadeau would also open up the scoring in the third period before the Spartans got their lone marker in the contest when Sergey Tyukavin slipped one past Artur Veiber. That would be as close as the Spartans would get as the Civics would restore their 5 goal lead shortly after via Vadim Shatunov and finally round out the scoring when Maksim Kalashnikov found twine with less than 5 minutes left in the game.

Veiber in the Civics net made 49 stops in a winning cause.

Martin Petiul started for the Spartans and suffered the setback, giving up four on 30 chances while Cole Kohut saved 22 of 25 in relief.

Nathan Curley started the outburst just 45 seconds into the frame before exactly 1 minute later Matthew Senra would add another to the Civics total putting them in control of the game early in the third.
