Date: Dec 7, 2019
The Rookie Ball Black Sox won in heroic fashion this Tuesday, July 23, winning 15-14 against Soo Michigan. Coming from behind in the final inning, the Sox rallied for 5 runs to secure the victory.
Despite an offensive surge by Soo Michigan, including multiple homeruns, the Sox were able to hold steady. The local club managed to convert an astonishing 3 double plays in their defensive efforts.
At the climax of the game, the Sox’s Peter Paquette hit a game-tying single. Quickly following, Luke Thorburn drove a game-winning base hit to complete the comeback for the Sox.
The Rookie Black Sox are led by head coach Jason Thorburn. Thorburn, a former Black Sox player, is pleased with the development of his young squad.
“The kids are adjusting. They are doing better than I could have imagined,” said Thorburn.
Riding a hot-streak, the Sox are 5-0-1 in their last 6 games. Thorburn and company are looking to ride this momentum into an upcoming tournament in Lasalle, Ontario on August 2nd.
The team is comprised of 12 players, 8 of which are in their first ever season of competitive baseball.
“Our staff has emphasized playing smart baseball,” exclaimed Thorburn. “Just make the easy plays, hit the ball hard, and things will fall into place.”
