WINTER WORKOUTS for all 2007-2010 birth years

The u14 Bantam Black Sox competed at the Ontario Baseball Association Provincial tournament this past Labour Day weekend in Lasalle Ontario.
They began the 14-team competition by defeating Mississauga 6-1. The Sox got on the board in the second inning when Michael Starzomski drew a walk, scoring one run. The Sox tallied three runs in the fourth inning. Tyler Caruso had an RBI double in the inning to lead the run-scoring. Gavin Lamming led the Sox to victory on the pitcher's mound. He lasted six innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out three. Connor Bruzas earned the save, closing out the 7th inning. The Sox tallied ten hits on the day, including multiple hits from Wesley Pomeroy, Cole Masse, and Caruso.
The Sox asserted their will over Chatham Diamonds 14U on their way to an 11-1 victory in game 2. Cole Masse tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, while Wesley Pomeroy added a homerun in the contest. Connor Bruzas pitched a complete game on the mound, throwing five innings while allowing one run on three hits and striking out two. Michael Starzomski, Bruzas, Jaxon Alexander, Pomeroy, Masse, and Carmine Perna each picked up hits. The Sox didn't commit a single error in the field; Starzomski led the team with 8 putouts in the field.
On Saturday evening the Sox battled the London West Tincaps en route to a 3-2 victory in an emotional back and forth game. The Sox were down 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning when Wesley Pomeroy singled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs. Left-hander Michael Hapanovich led the way on the mound, lasting 5 innings while allowing one-earned run. Hapanovich’s took an economical approach on the mound, needing only 57 pitches over his stint. Carmine Perna picked up a six-out save in relief. Jaxon Alexander added a pair of hits in the win.
In Game 4, the Sox fell to Orillia Royals 7-5 on Sunday after a game-turning controversial ruling. It was a heartbreaker for Sox Bantam Minor, as they lost the lead late. The game was tied at five with Orillia Royals 14U A batting in the top of the seventh when Carmine Perna induced Bodhi Taylor to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. The Sox lost despite out-hitting Orillia Royals nine to three.
Cole Masse started the game for Sox Bantam Minor. He lasted three and a third innings, allowing one hit and three runs while striking out five. Perna took the loss for Sox Bantam Minor. He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and four runs while striking out two. The Sox racked up nine hits. Jayce Prgomet and Ty Beaupre both had multiple hits.
The Sox saw their Provincial bid come to an end, falling to the high-powered Lasalle offense in a 17-3 loss. Tyler Caruso went 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of doubles.
The 3-2 record at the OBAs is the most successful outcome for the Bantam Black Sox in over a decade.
