Peewee Sox Split 4 Game Weekend

The Soo Peewee Black Sox won 2 of 4 games this past weekend, July 6-7. The local club is led by head coach Mike Varpio, who is returning behind the bench for the 2019 season.  

Game one saw the Sox fall to the Sudbury Shamrocks by a score of 9-3. Lucas Carrier got the ball to start for the Sox, picking up 2 strikeouts over 2 innings of work.  

Bouncing back in game two, the Soo edged out Valley East in a nail-biting 10-8 victory. Caleb Walker had a strong performance in the contest, going 3 innings on the mound, allowing 2 runs without surrendering a walk. He followed suit at the plate, picking up 2 hits while driving in 3 RBIs. Devin Jones-McDonald and Keyton Mousseau each chipped in with a pair of hits respectively.

On Sunday morning the Sox fell to Sudbury 10-1. Logan Dearing notched 2 hits in the match, while John Varpio and Jones-McDonald also added hits. Heading into the final game of the weekend, the Soo took home a thrilling 15-11 victory over Valley East.

Four individuals (Keyton Mousseau, Wes White, Logan Dearing, and Devin Jones-McDonald) had impressive performances at the plate, tallying 3 hits apiece; Kolten Tremblay added a pair of base hits, including a triple.

The Soo’s record in the Northern Elite League now stands at 3-5.
