NEW WEBSITE FOR 2023
Date: Apr 19, 2023
Widely publicized was the lackluster finish Blazer Nation had to the regular season, one that saw them play desperation lacrosse to salvage a tie game against the upgraded Super Jokers. The Blazers limped into the post season figuratively and literally, as a bunch of difference makers have been kept out of the lineup with injuries.
Despite facing a little bit of the injury bug, the good guys really buckled things down and took care of business, right from the opening faceoff of the playoffs. The score was still a close at the end of the first frame, 2-1 for the Blazers, but as the period wrapped up you really had the sense the Best Dressed Team in BC came to play, and weren’t going to let this game go sideways. After 40 minutes they opened the score to 6-1, and saved the best for the final frame and wrapped things up 11-2.
Leading the charge, as usual, was perennial VSLL MVP Cody Boon, who notched 4 goals and 2 assists, while Jeremy Bell added 3 goals 3 assists, while Michael Bedard (1 goal 2 assists) and Kyle Bronson (1 goal) rounded out the scoring. Veteran sniper Bryan Reeve unfortunately left the game early due to injury.
At the defensive end, star goaltender Rob Wood was the story again, with 24 saves and only 2 goals against. Helping keep the door closed was captain Kurt Bronson, who also notched a goal, as well as veteran transition star Tory Spiteri (1 goal). Brothers Lorne and Vinny Sam, Luke Crowther, Jake Rave, Jarred Robinson, and Robbie Baldwin helped keep the defensive zone on lockdown.
The 2019 VSLL Playoffs continue tomorrow night, where the Blazers face the tough and talented Cowichan Rats, who have advanced after defeating the Wsanec Arrows on Saturday in Duncan. A bit of a rivalry has evolved between the Blazers and Rats, so expect a spirited battle out there. Faceoff is at 7:30 at Archie Browning Sports Centre in Esquimalt. Admission is free, so come check it out!
Also, we’d love it if you considered “going green” on your way to the rink – which is easily accessible via a major bus route, bicycle lanes, or bring some friends and carpool!
