The Bantam Minor Sox competed in a tournament in Gaylord, Michigan this past week June 8-9. Over the course of the weekend, the Sox managed to win 1 of the 3 games played.

Game one featured a close battle against the tournament’s host team, Gaylord. Despite a late-game surge, the Sox fell short, losing 6-4. Carmine Perna, Wes Pomeroy, and Michael Starzomski all collected hits in the loss.

“We were never able to fully recover,” said head coach Mark Caruso.

“We learned a valuable lesson about having a full-game focus. It made the difference.”

Game two saw the Sox fall to Armada 13-1. Despite an evenly matched beginning, multiple third-inning errors resulted in a lopsided finish. Cole Masse got the sole hit for the Sox in the loss.

Concluding their tournament, the Sox bounced back for a 7-5 win over Davidson. Gavin Lamming picked up the win, throwing two innings of mid-game relief. The game concluded in a thrilling fashion. With the tying run on base, second baseman Connor Bruzas orchestrated a game ending double-play. Bruzas dove for a line drive, and proceeded to flip the ball to second base to complete the play.

Next action for the Sox is a double header in Soo Michigan on June 17.

The Sox record now sits at 7-4.
