Carinci's Walk-off highlights Opening Weekend.

Toronto, ON - The Official opening weekend for the Canadian Premier Baseball League began this Past Mother’s Day Weekend for the Toronto Mets.

 

It was a great start to the weekend for the Program as a whole. The players battled the elements and their opponents to begin the season.

 

The 14u Mets led by Head Coach Denis Bailey were highlighted by a couple of great pitching performances. Marquez Allard (Pickering, ON) threw 4.1 innings striking out seven batters and only giving up two earned runs and two walks. Owen Shepherd (Toronto, ON) struck out seven in just 2.2 innings pitched. Dylan Sullivan (Pickering,ON) was solid behind the plate catching 12 innings on the weekend. Nicholas Balodemas (Whitby, ON) was the offensive bright spot going 3-5 with a walk.

 

Head Coach Hugh Walters and the 15u Mets weekend was highlighted by Flynn Matheson’s (Toronto, ON) three run Home run, and catching 12 innings on Sunday. Tucker Delaney (Brooklin, ON) hit .500 for the weekend.

 

16u Sereda was the recipient of a great pitching performance from 2020 – Tyler Chong (Markham, ON) Chong threw seven innings striking out 5 giving up zero earned runs. Jonah Feldstein (Toronto, ON) picked up the win throwing five innings scattering four hits. Lukas Sabo (Toronto, ON)picked up a two inning save. Justin Murray (Markham, ON) picked up a couple of hits, and Landon Bentley (Courtice, ON) played small ball, picking up a sac bunt that lead to a two RBI single for Sam Brooke (Thornhill, ON). Bentley would add an RBI of his own in the victory.

 

16u Watt’s weekend was highlighted by the long ball, with a two-run home run by Russell Agar (Caledon, ON) and a solo shot for Alex Scoular (Whitby, ON). Charlie Iriotakis was outstanding in the outfield, making a couple of great catches, to go along with a number of great at bats. On the mound Jake Smith (Kingston, ON) pitched four plus solid innings. 

 

The big blast of the weekend came from 17u Reid’s Justin Carinci (Ajax, ON) who hit a come from behind two run walk off home run. The Mets were held hitless for the first 6 innings of the game and trailed by six runs heading into the last inning. Robert Battista (Toronto, ON) broke up the no hitter with an RBI single. Caden Shapiro (Toronto, ON) hit a three-run double to set up Carinci’s walk off blast. On the mound Adam Khan (Aurora, ON) started and threw four shutout innings striking out six. In game two, Cole Iantomasi (Whitby, ON) and Ethan Boisvert (Oshawa, ON) led the offence with two hits each in the loss. Mitch Bratt (Newmarket, ON) pitched well in his three innings of work striking out seven batters. Turner Spoljaric (Lisle, ON) was solid in his season debut, pitching two innings striking out three.
