The New Tecumseth Civics have proven their commitment to excellence by re-signing 2018-2019 Coach of the Year Runner Up Dennis Martindale who will return to his roles as both GM and Head Coach for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

Martindale, who is entering his third season as Head Coach of the Civics and fourth year coaching junior hockey in Canada, joined the Civics in 2017 following a lengthy professional career where he played 14 years in Germany, France and Quebec.

Martindale led the Civics to a 24-15-3 record which was a 4 point improvement over last season’s record, the most impressive stretch of this record being the aforementioned 11-1 post-Christmas break. Martindale’s coaching, which was done primarily solo on the bench, was a huge reason for the improvement of not only his team but also his players. Each of this season’s top 8 scorers for the Civics saw at least a 10 point improvement in their production with the average improvement being 20.65 points among these players.

Martindale’s coaching to a 4th place finish this season also secured the Civics home ice in the first round of the playoffs where they took advantage knocking out the 5th seeded Almaguin Spartans before they bowed out to the recent Russell Cup Champion Ville-Marie Pirates.

Martindale was excited to return to New Tecumseth and is very focused on helping lead the Civics to a title, “ I’m very excited to be back in New Tec for a third season. We have a great core of guys and they all know what our goal is next season. It’s been a learning process. I believe we learned a lot by playing Ville Marie in the playoffs last season, realizing what it takes to win. I enjoy coaching here and I am looking forward to next season to achieve our ultimate goal with this great group of players.”

In addition to his management and coaching Martindale also has helped players advance to higher levels using the connections he made while playing Professionally and at the College and Junior levels in Canada.

We are very excited to be welcoming you back to New Tec Dennis, you have proven to be a coach and gm that can get the most out of his team and we can’t wait to see you back with the team this year. Welcome Back!
