Grand Valley State to face Sault College in Men's D-III Finals

Men's D-III National Championships Semifinal Recap

 

Day four, the Semifinals, of the ACHA Men’s Division III National Championships started out with (N3) Grand Valley State University defeating (N2) University of Michigan 4-2 in the first game of the day at the Comerica Center.  Grand Valley State’s Cole Parkhurst led the Lakers in scoring with two goals as Alex Siroky and Tim Baldwin also tallied two points for the day. Michigan struck first jumping to a 2-0 lead with 4:11 remaining in the first period until Baldwin brought the Lakers within one with an unassisted goal at 18:34 in the period.  Parkhurst recorded his first goal of the game to tie the score at 2-2 with 2:46 remaining in the middle frame. Grand Valley’s Ben Kowalske scored what would be the game-winner early, just 27 seconds into the third period before Parkhurst added the insurance goal at 6:01.

Game two of the semifinals saw a dominating performance as (N1) Sault College defeat (A2) Fairfield University 6-2 Friday evening at the Comerica Center.  Up 1-0 after the first period, Sault College went on a scoring spree erupting with four goals in the second period. Down 2-0 after a Sault power-play goal just 62 seconds into the second period, Fairfield University came within one just after the six-minute mark. However, Sault College opened the flood gates as Kaelan Oflynn scored five seconds later unassisted and then again three minutes after that. Sault College’s Bryceton Lalonde finished the period, giving the Cougars a 5-1 lead at 11:05 in the second.  Fairfield’s Cameron Geary scored the other goal for the Stags midway in the final frame before Parker Morgan scored an empty-net goal with 43 seconds remaining.
