FRISCO, Texas -- The American Collegiate Hockey Association hosted the second day of the 2019 National Tournament on March 28, 2019. Three teams would advance on to the semi-finals after tallying two wins in their series.
Another one goal came was completed in the day’s first slot, as No. 5 Miami University recorded the only goal of the morning game against No. 4 Michigan State University. With two goals in two games, total, the Redhawks would advance to the National Semifinals for the 6th consecutive year. Ripely Crosley added a second shutout to her National Tournament book with 31 saves for Miami. In net for Michigan State was Kathryn Hamer for the second time at the tournament, making 19 saves on 20 shots faced.
Lindenwood-Belleville would come back in game two with a big win over Grand Valley State as they tallied a 10-2 win. Allison Carlson would put in both of the Laker’s goals, one in the second period and one in the third period. The No. 3 Lynx’s goals came from Michaela Read (2g), Alicia Williams (2g, 2a), Melissa Delry, Tessa O’Connor (1g, 2a), Lindsay Gillis (2g, 3a), Jessica Walker, and Dakota McAlpine. Assists were added by Mackenzie Drost (2a), Ashley Dietmeier, Jamie Riselay, Nikki Lillies, and Hallie Fisher. In net picking up the win for Lindenwood-Belleville was Hannah Stone (19/21). Lauren Allen begun the game in net for Grand Valley and stopped 23 shots before Emma Hembrough took over, who made 19 saves on 24 shots. Game three for the No. 3 vs No. 6 seeds will take place Friday, March 29 at 1 pm at the Comerica Center.
The Adrian College Bulldogs were the next to punch their ticket to the Semifinals. They would defeat No. 7 McKendree University in a 3-1 victory. Nicole Paradis started the scoring off in period number two after a centering pass from Leah Williams. The Bulldogs would take a 2-0 lead into the final period after Williams would assist a Kaillie Hardy goal, much the same as she did on goal number one. Lara Wentz brought the Bearcats within one again as she found open net late in the third period. But Hardy answered shortly after with a bar-down goal to finish out the game. Jazmin Malinowski was in net for McKendree making 43 saves on 46 shots, while Dana Colombo stopped 19 of 20 shots for Adrian.
The Liberty University Flames snagged a second win in order to advance to the National Semifinals after defeating Midland University, 6-2. Dana McLeod put in Liberty’s first goal with assistance from Vanessa DeMerchant midway through the first to begin their lead. Emily John made it two just eleven minutes into the second period. Tallying her first of the game, Shannon Fehr would find the back of the net a minute later with passes from McLeod and Shelby Bradford to increase the Flames’ lead to three. Two more goals soared in for Liberty before the end of the period, one from Lauren McDonald and one from Kristi Serafin. A second assist from DeMerchant and one from Mackenzie Carroll on the final second period goals. The Warriors struck back to open the third, as 1:36 into play Isabelle Uhl Chmiel would bury a shot after a breakout pass from Katherine Kihm. Midland’s second goal would also come from Uhl Chmiel five minutes later to make it 5-2 with most of the third period left to play. The Flames’ would find a sixth goal, her second of the night, from Fehr. In net for Midland was McKenna Gehner who made 42 saves on 48 shots. Nadia Rupoli made 11 saves for Liberty between the pipes, while Madeleine Snook made five saves on seven shots faced.
