Day four, the Semifinals, of the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships started out with epic playoff hockey as No. 5 Iowa State University upset second-ranked University of Michigan-Dearborn 3-2 in double overtime. Colton Kramer scored just 3:01 into the second extra session with a deflection in front of the Michigan’s net for the goahead win. Iowa State, a four-time ACHA National Champion runner-up, scored first in the opening period before Michigan’s Tyler Groat scored a pair of goals at 12:42 and 18:31 to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead. Iowa netminder Matt Goedeke and Michigan goaltender each backstopped their teams solidly in the second period. Iowa State’s Nicolas Sandy would force overtime with the equalizer goal at 16:41 in the third.

Game 2 was a rematch of the 2013 ACHA National Championship game that produced the same outcome as No. 6 seed Minot State University upset the No. 1 seed Lindenwood University with a 1-0 score.  Lindenwood had entered the National Championships as No. 1 after holding onto the top spot for 14 consecutive weeks and the Central States Collegiate Hockey League Regular Season Champions looked to bring home their second national title in four seasons and fourth overall. Minot netminder Josh Bykowski stopped all 23 shots and Blake Fournier’s goal at 9:52 in the first period proved to be the only goal the Beavers needed to have their second chance at a national title.
