2018-2019 Graduating Players

Date:  Source: New Tecumseth Civics

The New Tecumseth Civics would like to wish the following players who will be aging out of junior hockey eligibility the best of luck with their future careers and thank them for what they did for the Civics this past season (and in some cases longer).

Defenseman Phil Kemmer:

German born rearguard and Civics Assistant Captain is graduating after two years with the New Tecumseth Civics Jr ‘A’ Hockey Program to much success. First coming to Canada to play at the beginning of the 2017-2018 season Kemmer went from a player who needed to adjust to the Canadian style of play, to a player who controlled it. His quick first pass, hard shot and outstanding puck awareness made him one of the leaders of the Civics blue line for the past two seasons. He played in 73 games and recorded 45 Points (5G, 40A).

Forward Arvid Sjogren:

The Swedish forward Sjogren is the second longest tenured of the graduating Civics, having been acquired from the Titans in a deadline trade last season. Sjogren enjoyed his best season offensively this year posting 36 Points (10G, 26A) in 40 games at an almost point per game clip which added to his impressive overall GMHL resume of 75 Points scored in 119 regular season contests.

Defenseman Victor Mattsson:

Another Swedish born player acquired from the Titans, Mattsson came to New Tecumseth and immediately established himself as a big bodied and hard hitting puck moving defenseman. Mattsson helped fortify the Civics blue line leading them to an 11-1 record after his acquisition with 8 Points (all helpers) in those games.

Forward Jeff Venzon lll:

Joining the Civics for the last 5 games of the regular season, Venzon lll took a couple of games to acclimate back to the speed of junior hockey after taking almost a year off, but when he did became one of the Civics most talented playmakers. A back hand specialist Venzon lll was no stranger to going back hand whether it be to get a shot off for the goal or to make a pass leading to a scoring opportunity. Venzon lll finished with 7 Points (3G, 4A) in 5 games.

Forward Austin Petrie:

Petrie the American born forward, joined the Civics after the Christmas break as well playing in 8 games after the trade deadline registering 10 points (3G, 7A) including a 2 Goal 3rd star performance against the rival Bradford Bulls down the stretch. Prior to joining the Civics Petrie had a stint playing pro hockey in the FHL (Federal Hockey League) and was teammates prior in junior with the aforementioned Venzon lll.

The Civics would once again like to thank these players for everything they gave to the team, without each of our players our team wouldn’t have been what it was and we wouldn’t have accomplished what we did this season. We wish all 5 of you the best of luck from all of Civic Nation.
