Indiana Tech prevails in battle of No. 1 and 2

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team defeated North American Intercollegiate Hockey Association (NAIHA) foe Midland University, 3-2, on Friday evening inside the SportONE/Parkview Ice House to notch its 17th straight victory.
 
Midland got on the board first with 8:47 left in the first, but the Warriors responded with 5:20 to go in the period as Francesco Corona lit the lamp to tie the game up at 1-1. Jarrett Pfeiffer put the Orange and Black up 2-1 with 3:22 on the clock in the second while Stavros Soilis seemed to put the game out of reach with an empty-netter and 74 seconds left in the game.
 
The visiting Warriors made things interesting though, as they netted a power play goal with 34 seconds to go in the game and had a chance to tie the game            in the last 10 seconds, but Ryan O'Toole shut the door with his 24th save of the game to keep the win streak going and improve his record to 11-3-0 on the season.
 
Joel Holmberg recorded two assists on the night while Zach Bennett, Corona and Soilis also received credit for assists.

 

The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team defeated Midland University, 6-3, Saturday evening in North American Intercollegiate Hockey Association (NAIHA) action inside the SportONE/Parkview Ice House. The Warriors have now won 18 straight games.
 
Tech scored two goals in the first two minutes of the game as Cameron Wirick and Alex Potter gave the Warriors the early lead. Midland cut the deficit in half with 7:54 to play in the first but Mike Tish restored the two-goal lead with a power play goal just over a minute later.
 
The visiting Warriors were in full control in the second as they scored two goals in the opening three minutes to tie the game up at 3-3, but Adam Jonak put the Orange and Black back up with eight minutes left in the period. Felix Kronwall made it 5-3 Tech with 13:10 to play in the third while Blake Cudmore scored an empty netter with 2:42 to go to cap the scoring.
 
Bryson Linenburg improve to 12-0-0 on the season with 21 saves. Adam Vannelli and Alex Gregorich each netted two assists.

 

The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team won its 19th straight game on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Midland University in overtime, 5-4, to complete the three-game sweep of their North American Intercollegiate Hockey Association (NAIHA) rivals at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
 
"This was a great weekend against a quality opponent," said head coach Frank DiCristofaro. "We had many contributions up and down the lineup and that's what we're going to need down the stretch here."
 
Jarrett Pfeiffer put the Warriors up 1-0 with a power play goal at the 9:08 mark in the first, but Midland came right back with a power play goal of their own just over two minutes later. The cycle would repeat one period later as Joel Holmberg put Tech up 2-1 on the man-advantage with 12:16 to play in the second, only to see the visitors knot the game up at 2-2 with 5:33 to go thanks another power play.
 
Midland took a 3-2 lead into the third after scoring with 57 seconds to go in the second, but Mike Tish knotted the game up a 3-3 just 21 seconds into the period, while Tish would tie the game up a 4-4 with 9:28 remaining in regulation after Midland had gone back up at the 12:28 mark. The visiting Warriors had three chances to end the game in overtime, but Ryan O'Toole stood tall in goal to give his team the chance to win it as he assisted on the game-winning goal with 2:48 to play as Zach Bennett beat the MU goalie for the 5-4 victory.
 
O'Toole finished the game with 23 saves to improve to 12-3-0 on the season while Stavros Soilis had four assists.
 
Tech (24-3-0) returns to action next weekend as they host Concordia University (Mich.) in their final home series of the season. Puck drop on Friday is set for 7:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
