Lindenwood-Belleville Sweeps Waldorf

SAINT LOUIS– On Friday evening, the Lindenwood-Belleville men's ice hockey team opened a two-game series with NAIHA foes Waldorf. Thanks to a two goal second period and a 38 save performance by Filip Subrt, the Lynx picked up their first win since December 1 in a 4-1 triumph over the Warriors.

With the win, the Lynx improve to 7-10-2 on the season while the Warriors fall to 5-18-0.

Lindenwood-Belleville got on the board first when Brody Surette scored his third of the season on an unassisted slapshot from near the blue line at 4:01 of the opening period. The Lynx then extended the lead to 2-0 when Mike Pedersen notched his fifth of the season off a Cam Seto assist at 2:33 of the second period.

Waldorf then broke the shutout with a power-play goal at 5:38 to make the score 2-1. Lindenwood-Belleville answered back when Gustav Warnelius scored his third of the season off a helper from Billy Denis at 19:05.

In the final frame, Lindenwood-Belleville scored the only goal at 4:11 when Kyle Diamond picked up his 10th of the year on an assist by Zach Crowfard. Neither team found the back of the net again and the game ended 4-1 in favor of the Lynx.

For the contest, Lindenwood-Belleville outshot Waldorf 56-39.  Offensively, the Lynx were led by Surette, Pedersen, Varnelius and Diamond who all recorded a goal apiece. In the nets, Subrt recorded 38 saves for the Lynx while Ryall Purdy made 52 saves for the Warriors.

On Saturday night, the Lindenwood-Belleville men's ice hockey team looked to complete a weekend sweep over NAIHA rival Waldorf. Thanks to a two goal performance by Mike Pedersen, the Lynx completed the sweep of the Warriors with a 5-2 victory.

With the win, the Lynx improve to 8-10-2 on the season while the Warriors fall to 5-19-0.

"We finished off strong though we looked inconsistent," said head coach Lindsay Middlebrook. "The good news is we got four points and two big wins but the bad news is we still have to get sharper."

Waldorf jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 8:20 mark but Lindenwood-Belleville found a late first period equalizer when Eric Fisher scored at 18:00 off an assist from Oliver Joensson. The Warriors regained the lead at 8:10 of the second period but the Lynx tied it up again when Joensson scored at 15:56 off helpers from Vegard Faret and Billy Denis.

At 17:11 of the second stanza, the Lynx grabbed a lead they would not relinquish when Cam Seto scored off a Dallen Neese assist. Just 38 seconds later, Pedersen recorded his first of the night with assists awarded to Denis and Neese. The Lynx then closed out the scoring at 12:12 of the final frame when Pedersen notched his second of the night with the assists going to Neese and Vladislav Zamshytski.

For the contest, Lindenwood-Belleville outshot Waldorf 59-30.  Offensively, the Lynx were led by Pedersen's two goals and Neese's three assists. Denis and Joensson also recorded multi-point nights. In between the pipes, Filip Subrt recorded 28 saves for the Lynx while Jeffrey Veitch made 54 saves for the Warriors.

Lindenwood-Belleville returns to action on Friday, February 22 when it hosts Lawrence Tech. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Missouri.
