LOWELL, Mass. -- Freshman forward Sam Knoblauch (Rochester, Mich.) of the UMass Lowell Hockey team was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week for the first time in his career, which was announced on Monday afternoon by the Conference office.

Knoblauch registered three points (2g,1a) with a +3 plus/minus rating and four shots on goal in the weekend split at Maine for the River Hawks. He posted two points (1g,1a) in the 4-3 loss on Friday and followed that up with the only goal of the game in the 1-0 shutout on Saturday at Alfond Arena.

"Sam had a strong weekend helping us gain points in a tough road environment," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "He was solid on both sides of the puck and he was rewarded for those efforts. We look forward to his continued progress."

He leads the team with six points and four goals, to go along with a +3 rating and 12 shots on goal in eight games for UMass Lowell this season. He is currently one of two Hockey East rookies to lead his team in scoring, along with UConn's Jáchym Kondelík (10 pts).
