MATT WARD COMMITS TO NU PURPLE EAGLES

Date:  Source: Terriers Baseball

The 18u Terriers were guests at Niagara University this past month and catcher Matt Ward was so impressive with his body of work that day ‎that he earned a scholarship offer from the NU coaching staff, which he has accepted.
He will join the NCAA DI Purple Eagles‎ roster in the fall of 2019.

Matt's baseball IQ is beyond his years. ‎He is confident, controls the game, keeps his pitchers focused and makes his teammates better. All outstanding attributes to what makes him a positive force as a team leader.

Matt has also backed all that up throughout his career as a Terrier. ‎His ability to throw runners out, block, frame and provide solid defense overall has led him to this great opportunity at Niagara University.

Matt's abilities are not just limited to defense, his bat will also play at the college level as he consistently hits balls to the gaps. He has come up with several clutch hits in big games over the past three seasons in league and tournament play for the Terriers.

The Purple Eagles baseball program has taken great strides over the past few years with strong recruiting, improved play and a new state of the art playing surface on campus.
In 2018 they were 13-11 in MAAC conference play and qualified for the conference tournament in Staten Island.

Last year Matt led Our Lady of Mount Carmel high school baseball team to their first ever ROPSSA championship.
He also competed in Oklahoma at the Junior Sunbelt tournament.
In Fort Myers at the PG World Underclassmen Championship Matt was named to the All- Tournament Team. He hit .444, had a .600 OBP and an OPS of 1.044
He has also been an honor roll student for the past three years, garnering a 92% average.
Matt will be studying Business Finance at NU.

Congratulations to the entire Ward family on all of Matt's achievements, and his continued success on and off the field.
