Games this past week:

Knights of Meaford @ New Tecumseth Civics

10.4.18- Civics 3, Knights 7

The Knights of Meaford started strong and finished even stronger taking down the New Tecumseth Civics 7-3 Thursday Evening in a GMHL match-up at the New Tecumseth Rec Centre.

Meaford and New Tecumseth would actually trade opening goals halfway through the 1st period as Steven Olik scored for the Knights before Laroslav Gomeev would answer with one for the Civics, shorthanded and even strength goals both by Jerome Linklater would send the Knights into the first intermission with a 3-1 lead.

In the Second Period the game was very back and forth with a lot of shots on goal for both goalies but the only one to go through was a Roman Kulakov marker to bring the Civics to within 1 and end the period at 3-2.

The third period would see a lot of scoring in a short amount of time as all 5 of the periods goals were scored in a 6 minute time frame, to the Knights advantage as they scored 4 of the 5 including two goals from Tyson Gudaitis while Lev Mikheev had the Civics third period goal.

Joining Gudaitis and Linklater with 2 points were Connor Long and Tyler Arsenault who each had a pair of helpers as well as Olik who added an assist to his first period goal, Marshel Tupper picked up two assists for the Civics.

Meaford goaltender Allan Menary stopped 28 of 31 on his way to victory while New Tecumseth rookie Brock Machholz saw all 40 shots in the Civics loss.

New Tecumseth Civics @ Wiarton Schooners

10.6.18- Civics 8, Schooners 0

In the same way the Knights played against them two days prior the Civics turned a hot start and a very strong finish to the game into an 8-0 win over the Wiarton Schooners at the Wiarton Community Centre.

The scoring started for New Tecumseth 6 minutes into the game when Captain Matthew Senra wired a Mikhail Kornilov pass home, 6 minutes Vadim Shatunov would get the Civics second of the game a goal that gave new Civics Hunter York his first point with the team on the assist.

After a scoreless albeit 25 shot period for the Civics, New Tecumseth would come back with a monster 6 goal third period behind 2 goals each from Arvid Sjogren and Marshel Tupper and single markers from Tyson Lambert and Phil Kemmer.

Sjogren would lead all skaters with 4 points while both Lambert and Kornilov finished with 3 points each.

Keegan Bradley got the start for the Schooners allowing all 8 goals on a strong performance otherwise, while Artur Veiber picked up a shutout in his first start of the year.

Home Game this week:

West Nipissing Lynx @ New Tecumseth Civics

10.11.18- 7:30 New Tecumseth Rec Centre

The Civics will be looking to for a different result when they host the West Nipissing Lynx in the second matchup of the season for the two squads. The first game was in Sturgeon Falls where despite a back and forth start to the game and a 4-4 score at one point the Civics were defeated by an 8-4 final score. The offenses will be led by two trios with the Civics trotting out Captain Matt Senra alongside Arvid Sjogren and Marshel Tupper to lead the offense up against the highly scoring trio of Samuel Vigneux, Colin Boudreau and Jared Dupuis. While the Defenses will both attempt to limit the amount of shots their goaltenders face in an effort to keep this a low scoring game this time. In Net for the Lynx will likely be goaltender Giulio Costa and it will either be Mitchell Jacobson or Brock Machholz manning the pipes for the Civics.
