Fife Flyers and Manchester Storm have announced the Four Nations Showcase as part of their pre-season schedule of games.

Both clubs will welcome opponents from Denmark and Germany as they prepare for the 2018/19 season in a busy couple of weeks at the end of August.

As well as playing each other twice, Danish sides Aalborg Pirates and Odense Bulldogs as well as German duo Eispiraten Crimmitschau and SC Riessersee will visit both Fife Ice Arena and Silverblades in Altrincham.

Storm Managing Director Jamie Tunstall said it was important to sort out their pre-season fixtures early as they prepare to host teams from three countries.

“Last season we only had eight weeks to prepare for the season ahead, so this time we knew we had more time to plan,” he said.

“We had to make sure we got a proper pre-season schedule together that not only challenges our players but also gives our fan base top European action on home ice.

“We're delighted to announce this event and hope it can become an annual occasion in the years ahead.”

Storm head coach Ryan Finnerty added: “It’s important to get as much game time together before the season starts.

“These games will benefit our game condition, timing, and chemistry levels while also allowing guys more time to adjust to the size of the ice here in Manchester.

“I’m also happy for our fans, as they get to see four different EU teams and I hope they can support the games so we can continue to bring in quality teams from around Europe.”

Flyers begin with a trip to Silverblades to take on Manchester Storm on Wednesday 22nd August before hosting Aalborg Pirates on the following Saturday, while Storm take on Odense Bulldogs.

Both teams switch opponents on Sunday 26th August before they meet again at Fife on Wednesday 29th August.

Fife then take on Eispiraten Crimmitschau on Saturday 1st September while Manchester host SC Riessersee on the same night, with the German sides swapping venues the night after.

And a club spokesperson at Fife Flyers added they’re pleased to confirm these fixtures early to help build up another campaign for the Kirkcaldy side.

“We’re delighted to confirm our pre-season plans so early on in the summer off-season and hope the fans will enjoy the games as we see the visiting teams at Fife Ice Arena,” they said.

“We’re really pleased to invite more European teams over to the UK for the pre-season campaign and it’s something we’ve done over the past few seasons.

“It’s not only been fun for the fans, but it has also really helped gel the team and get the guys both settled and prepared for the season ahead.

“We hope that the fans will enjoy the games and it will be a great opportunity for them to see the team in action before the official EIHL season gets underway.”

Details regarding ticketing and prices will be released in due course.
