AARSSEN ANNOUNCED FOR FIFE

Date:  Source: Elite Ice Hockey League

Fife Flyers’ latest signing Scott Aarssen says he’s looking forward to being cheered by the home support instead of years at the receiving end.

The 30-year-old is back in the Elite League, joining the Kirkcaldy side after a year at Sheffield Steelers, where he reached the play-off final.

And he admits he’s keen to get started and help the club to further success after winning the Gardiner Conference last year.

“Having been in the league for a while now, I know all about the fans and the incredible atmosphere in Fife,” Aarssen said. “I look forward to playing in front of them and receiving cheers instead of jeers.

“My family and I are extremely happy to be heading to Kirkcaldy to play for the Flyers this upcoming season.

“After doing some research, everyone I spoke to had nothing but great things to say about the organisation and the town.

“I couldn’t be more excited to get over there and meet my new teammates and coaches and I think Todd and Jeff have done a great job in assembling a team that’ll work hard and be successful.

“My goal is for our team to win every trophy and do whatever it takes to help the team win and I can’t wait to hit the ice and get started.”

Aarssen is heading into his sixth season on these shores, spending four at Braehead Clan between 2013 and 2017 prior to his move to Sheffield last year.

He has over 300 games under his belt across all domestic competitions, including two play-off finals appearances, in 2014 with the Clan and just last season with Steelers.

The defenceman has also played in European competition for both previous EIHL clubs and brings a wealth of experience and a style of play appreciated by Fife coach Todd Dutiaume.

He said: “We were really pleased to secure Scott’s services for the season ahead and he was a player whose style of play I always admired.

“After speaking to him in the summer, we were keen to add him to the roster and he brings experience, he knows the league well and will be an asset both on and off the ice.

“Scott will fit in well with the team we are building and it’s great to have him on board.”
