The Aquinas College men's hockey team finished the job this afternoon, defeating Indiana Tech in the finals of the NAIA Division Tournament. The Saints scored five unanswered goals to down the Warriors and claim their first NAIA hockey postseason tournament title. The Saints finish the season with a 24-11-2 record.

The Saints and Warriors played to a scoreless draw after the first 20 minutes of play. The Warriors took the lead less than a minute into the second-period, scoring on the powerplay to go up 1-0. But that would be the last of the good news for the Warriors, who were overrun by the Saints over the final two periods.

The Saints matched the Warriors just 24 seconds later to tie the game 1-1. Austin Kuch (JR/Fowlerville, Michigan) lit the lamp with Kyle Truax (FR/Las Vegas, Nevada) assisting on the play. Two minutes later, the Saints took the lead on a Sam Kaser (JR/East Grand Rapids, Michigan) goal that would end up as the game winner. Domenic Fusco (SR/Wyandotte, Michigan) and Steven Gustafson (FR/Anchorage, Alaska) were credited with assists on the play. After 40 minutes of hockey in Columbus, Ohio, the Saints held a 2-1 lead.

The game remained tight throughout the third-period, with the Saints unable to get the insurance goal to pull away. The defense held strong, however, keeping the Warriors at bay in their quest to tie things up and extend the season. Finally, the Saints got themselves some breathing room at the 5:45 mark, with Calvin Wojtaszak (SR/Comstock Park, Michigan) assisting Jason Wrbelis (SR/Rockford, Michigan) for a 3-1 lead. The Saints added an empty-netter at the 1:28 mark, this time with Wojtaszak finding the back of the net. Wrbelis put the capper on a three-goal third-period and a 5-1 win, scoring with 32 seconds left. Fusco and Zach Lloyd (JR/San Jose, California) had the assists.

Goalie Nick Ottenbacher (FR/New Baltimore, Michigan) finished off his tremendous rookie season in net for the Saints by stopping 31 of 32 shots he saw on the afternoon, picking up the win.

The Saints, the #1 seed in the tournament after finishing the regular-season with a 14-2 record in NAIA play, win the first NAIA postseason hockey tournament since 1984.
