Glens Falls NY –The Glens Falls Dragons are pleased announce that Long Island University products of Anthony Vaglica and James Varela will return to Glens Falls for the 2018 PGCBL Season.
Anthony Vaglica a native of Franklin Square, New York returns to the Dragons after a very impressive first year in the PGCBL. The 6’1 194 pounder made an immediate impact under Coach Cam Curler’s team finishing with a .256 batting average which in result made him finish top five on the team in that category. The now junior also finished with 133 at-bats in his 39 games started. Anthony Vaglica earned himself an All-Star selection along with earning himself MVP of the game. Last season credited to his 34 hits, 22 runs and 24 RBI’s and to finished with driving the ball out of the park three times.
Vaglica is the first official catcher signed to the team for the upcoming season. Anthony was also no stranger to taking extra bases this summer, Collecting himself nine doubles as he feels that there was a very strong bond in last year’s team and also seems to think there’s “unfinished business” with the Dragons coming into the summer as the upcoming second year sophomore in the PGCBL spoke with broadcaster Seth Cooper.
“I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the guys who are returning, we formed a solid bond. Also, I’m looking forward to winning more games and competing for a championship. We’re going to improve on finishing out close games and Coach Cam (Curler) is going to do a great job in helping us accomplish that”
James Varela is the third of four players from LIU that will be wearing that Dragon acrossed his chest during the upcoming summer. Varela, like Vaglica will be also entering his junior season at Long Island. The 6’2 - 215 pounder summer season was cut short, however, that didn’t stop from the Levittown native from making an impact. Varela ranked top three on the Dragons in innings and strikeouts, starting and appearing eight games and finishing with a record of 3-3, Varela thought last season was a good experience for him.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the team and seeing what Coach Cam (Curler) put together for this summer, I’m excited to see some returners and seeing my host family again. I, of course can’t wait to play another summer up in Glens Falls!” stated Varela.
Finishing his season with 49.1 innings of work while striking out thirty seven and only walking thirteen, Varela looks to be a threat in the PGCBL this upcoming 2018 season.
The Dragons will hit the field again in June as they kick off the 2018 PGCBL season, their third as a member of the league. Season tickets are on sale now at $5 per game. Call 518-746-4121 for more information.
