DOWD SET TO JOIN TITANS MIDGET STAFF
Date: Mar 12, 2018
MIDDLETOWN — Andrey Kapranov has worked with a multitude of Russian-born stars — most
notably Alex Ovechkin — and On Monday (Feb. 5) the New Jersey Jr. Titans were proud to
announce his addition to their esteemed coaching staff.
“Andrey is a wealth of hockey knowledge and brings an incredible resume with him to our
program,” Jr. Titans Hockey Director George Haviland said. “We couldn’t be happier to have him
as a member of our organization, and are truly excited to see the positive impact his coaching
abilities will have on the development of our players.”
Kapranov will being taking the helm of two Jr. Titans programs in the forthcoming 2018-19
season, including the organization’s Bantam Major (2004) and U16 AAA programs, both of
which will compete in the Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL).
Kapranov had three professional stints as a player in Russia, spending 10 years with the
Dinamo Moscow Hockey Academy (1986-1996), before skating with THK, Tver (1997-1999)
and Dizel, Penza (1999-2000).
Kapranov became a professional coach in 2000, working with the Dinamo Hockey Academy for
10 years, before moving on as an assistant with the Russian National Junior Team (2008-2012).
Kaparanov would spend the next six seasons in the Junior League MHL, before making his way
to New Jersey this past season as the Head Coach of the Jersey Shore Wildcats NA3HL
affiliate.
As well as Ovechkin, Kapranov has helped Montreal Canadiens teammates Alexander Radulov
and Alexander Galchenyuk obtain their NHL dreams, as well as Ivan Barbashev, who was
selected 33rd overall in 2014 by St. Louis, and made his NHL debut with the Blues in 2016-17.
“Andrey has a track record of helping players reach their goals, which is one of the reasons we
were interested in bringing him in,” Haviland said. “The goal of our organization is to help
improve and have them progress up the developmental ladder. And Andrey has knack for that.”
Since the organization’s inception, the New Jersey Jr. Titans has stood as one of the premier
developmental youth programs in the Atlantic District with 64 NCAA Division I commitments, 98
Division II and III commitments and 144 ACHA skaters, not to mention seven NCAA Division I
women’s commitments in the last three years.
