MIDDLETOWN – Chris McCafferty is bringing his major junior hockey and NCAA Division I experience to the New Jersey Junior Titans.

The Titans are proud to announce the addition of McCafferty to their coaching staff, as the Cushing Academy alum will head the organization’s U16 AA team for the 2018-19 season, which will compete in the New Jersey Youth Hockey League (NJYHL).

“Chris is an incredible addition to our organization,” Titans Hockey Director George Haviland said. “He’s a local guy who understands how to work with and develop the local player, because he’s reached the levels of the game our guys aspire to get to.”

After playing his high school hockey at CBA and competing at the prep school level with Cushing Academy, McCafferty starred at the United States Hockey League (USHL) level in 1989-90, when he registered 64 points on 15 goals and 49 assists in 39 games.

McCafferty then moved on to the NCAA Division I ranks with Colorado College, where he appeared in 66 games over three seasons.

Professional stints with the Utica Blizzard, Nashville Nighthawks and Nashville Ice Flyers followed from 1995 to 1998, before turning his attention to coaching, where he’s focused on the Tier 2 level and helped his various local programs to both NJYHL Playoff and Atlantic District Tournament appearances.

“I can’t stress how excited we are about having Chris with us,” Haviland said. “His strength in skill development is something we know our players will benefit from.”

Tryouts for the 2018-19 season are coming quick.
