Glens Falls NY –The Glens Falls Dragons are pleased announce that Siena Saints product and Gansevoort native Matt Hamel has returned and is the first signing for the Dragons for the 2018 PGCBL season.

Hamel returns to the Dragons squad in his junior season at Siena. The 21-year-old PGCBL second year veteran appeared in 36 games for Glens Falls in the 2016 campaign mainly switching between the positions of shortstop and second base. The Saint product posted a .275 batting average in 120 at-bats last season. Matt was also a force around the base path taking nine bags which landed him a spot in the top 10 position on the team. Mr. Hamel also drove in 15 RBI’s from mainly hitting cleanup in the month of July of last season and was able to add 10 BB’s to his official stat line in his first season under Coach Cameron Curler.

Overall, Hamel is looking forward to playing in front of his friends and family and putting that Dragons uniform on for the second season.

“It was a lot of fun playing in front of them and I’m looking forward to experiencing that again this summer”.

Hamel also stated that he’s excited to get the summer season started as he spoke to Dragon's broadcaster Seth Cooper.

“Without them (the fans), we would not have been successful as we were at home. We had their support every game and the attendance was great”.

Last season the Glens Falls Dragons had their best record at home since the 2011 season when previously the Glens Falls Golden Eagles were in the NYCBL.

The Glens Falls area has been no stranger to Siena ball players during the summer. Glens Falls baseball has seen four players represent Siena. Brian Fay spent the 2014 season with the Golden Eagles in their final season. The Dragons have seen three Saints a Dragon uniform at East Field. Along with Fay, Dave Hoffman and Justin Scala wore a Dragons uniform in 2016 representing the Green and Gold proudly. Dan Lowndes represented Siena in the outfield last summer with the Dragons.

The tradition of Siena players stopping and making their mark in Glens Falls as Hamel returns.
