Timely goals and solid defense gave Lynn University a 6-4 victory over Florida Tech on Saturday, November 11 at Space Coast Iceplex in Rockledge.

After Florida Tech jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead, the Fighting Knights regathered and began to chip away at the lead. Sophomore forward John Panzo scored twice — once in the final minute of the first period and once in the first minute of the second. Within just five minutes into the second period, Fighting Knights goals by senior captain Alex von Svoboda and freshman center Mitchell Wilkins gave Lynn a 4-3 lead.

The Panthers tied the game at 4-4 on a controversial score following a pileup in front of the Fighting Knights goal. But Lynn’s goaltender, sophomore Aaron King, shut down Florida Tech over the final 30 minutes.

A power play goal by sophomore Brendan Hickey, with six minutes remaining in the second period, gave the Fighting Knights a lead they would not relinquish. John Panzo put a cap on the game with his third goal of the game — the sophomore’s first away hat trick of his career — and Lynn never looked back.

The Fighting Knights (3-4) next face East Florida Collegiate Hockey Conference leader Embry-Riddle on December 1 in Daytona Beach, and EFCHC rival Flagler College on December 2 in Jacksonville.
