Cougars head into WCSA League Playoffs as #1 Seed

Date:  Source: University of Regina Cougars Softball Club

The University of Regina Cougars Women’s Softball team clinched a berth to the 2018 CCSA National Championship by finishing first overall in the WCSA League this past weekend in Saskatoon.  The Cougars started the weekend off strong with an 8-0 win over the Briercrest Clippers Saturday morning and a hard fought 4-0 win over the U of Calgary Dino’s Saturday afternoon. They added another win Sunday morning defeating the SAIT Trojans 8-0 but fell short against U of Saskatchewan 0-2 suffering their first loss all season.  With an impressive 22-1-1 record in the regular season the Cougars are ready to gear up for the WCSA playoffs this coming weekend in Moose Jaw.

Rookie pitcher Rachel Huber of Regina was again stellar on the mound this weekend shutting out U of Calgary in 7 innings of play and the U of S in 4 solid innings before handing over the ball to veteran pitcher Carmen Hughes of Regina.  The Cougars defense was again solid all weekend with great plays made all players.  Key hits by Morgan Jeannot and Keely Graf both of Regina kept them in U of S game but they just weren’t able to capitalize on getting the runs home to score.

Play-off games start at 6:00 Friday night vs the Briercrest Clippers. Stay tuned on the WCSA  website to get an updated play-off schedule.
