Hughes - Female Athlete of the Year

University of Regina softball player Carmen Hughes was recognized as the 2017 Softball Saskatchewan Female Athlete of the Year.  Carmen was recognized for her on field play and her work in the community. 

Hughes, a fourth Year Nursing Student at the U of R, helped the Cougars to a Western Collegiate Softball Association (WCSA) championship and a bronze medal at the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association championship.


During the 2017 season, Hughes led the WCSA with four home runs and 24 runs batted in, while tossing a league-high six wins on the mound.

Hughes played her minor ball in Regina and has attended a couple of Canadian Championships.  Carmen was on Softball Saskatchewan’s 2013 Canada Games team and also played two years in Kansas in the NJCAA and also professionally in New Zealand.  

Carmen has coached and also works as an Instructor in a number of Softball Saskatchewan Pitching & Hitting Clinics held throughout the province. 


Carmen is a tremendous ambassador for the sport of Softball locally, provincially, nationally and internationally and was a worthy recipient of this recognition.
