Date: Feb 12, 2018
The University of Regina Cougars Women’s Softball team remain undefeated and hold their first place spot in the Western Collegiate Softball Association. Adding another 5 more wins this past weekend in Calgary the Cougars are sitting with a 15-0-1 record. The Cougars started Saturday with a win, defeating SAIT by a score of 12-5 and picking up their second win against U of Calgary 10-3. They ended the day with a very close 3-2 victory over U of Saskatchewan in 7 action packed innings of play.
The Cougars finished up the weekend with wins on Sunday beating SAIT 11-0 and U of Calgary 10-0. Veterans Carmen Hughes of Regina and Candice VanHorn of Drums, Pennsylvania continue to shine at the plate for the Cougars with the top batting averages in the league. Candice is also a threat on the bases leading the league with stolen bases.
New recruit Leslie Miller from Oklahoma University was a force again on the mound and also helped out offensively while 1st year Cougar Pitcher Rachel Huber from Regina continues to shut the U of S bats down playing a key role in the victories over our arch rivals. 2nd year player Bailey Kohlman, from Lloydminster, had an impressive weekend playing several different defensive roles and offensively was a key factor in every game. The Cougar outfield is having a stellar season so far picking off players on the bases and holding off runs at home with huge throws for the outs. With the all the Cougar bats lighting up and the well-rounded defense this past weekend the Cougars continue on the Road to Gold for the National Title.
