The Titans Midgets U18, U16, and U15 teams are preparing for the NAPHL playoffs this upcoming weekend in Troy, Michigan. After regular season play all three Titans teams have clinched a Gold Division Playoff spot to compete for the Dixon Cup Playoffs.
The U18s enter the PHL Playoffs with a record 14-7-1-0 and will play Shattuck St. Mary's in game one. The Titans U18 team split the series with Shattuck going 1-1 this season. Coach Haviland had this to say about Shattuck, "Shattuck St. Mary's is a team with a lot of depth and are very disciplined. We will need to stay out of the penalty box, score 5v5 goals, will need to play strong defensively and will need our goaltending to be strong against a relentless team in Shattuck." In Game Two of the weekend the U18s will face the Madison Capitols. The Titans are currently 2-0 against Madison this season. Coach Haviland stated, "Madison is a strong offensive team with a lot of firepower. We are 2-0 against them this season but this Madison team will be very dangerous in the Playoffs." The third game of the weekend will be against Omaha AAA, our NAPHL rivals. The Titans are currently 0-1 against Omaha this season. "We were 0-1 against Omaha during regular season play and they have made many improvements to their lineup since the last time we played them. Any time you put these two teams together at the same rink on the same surface it's bound to be an exciting, hard fought game. Whoever comes out of this round robin play will be primed to play in the Final 4 and make a run at the Dixon Cup. This is the toughest playoff schedule we have had since being in the NAPHL" stated George Haviland. The Titans U18s are led by offensive powerhouses Gavin Gulash, Kyle Jeffers and Shane Haviland.
The U16s enter the PHL Playoffs with a record of 15-7-0-0 and will play the Everett Jr Silvertips, the Esmark Stars, and the St. Louis Selects. Coach Haviland's thoughts on the playoff weekend are, "Everett is a well coached team by a former NHLer, Turner Stevenson who beat us 2-1 this year, and it was a tight game that could have gone either way. Second we play Esmark who certainly has some depth, they skate well, and have a strong power play. Finally we play the St. Louis Selects who we have not played against this season. Our Power Play will need to be strong this weekend. Special teams always seem to be a difference maker this time of year."
The U15s enter the PHL Playoffs with a record of 5-4-0-1, and will be led into the playoffs by All-Star, standout goaltender Max Schwarz. The U15 team plays the Arizona Bobcats, Rocky Mountain Rough Riders, Meijer AAA, and the Northern Mass Cyclones, all teams that the U15 team has beaten this year. "The team will need come out and play hard. Consistency and perseverance will be the difference maker this weekend at the U15 Playoffs" said Coach Haviland.
