This past Saturday and Sunday, the Cougars came away with a successful weekend of wins in Glendive, Montana. During this weekend of play, the Cougars played two league games against the Briercrest Clippers and three exhibition games against the Dawson College Buccaneers. In total, the Cougars won 5 games, scored 48 runs, and only gave up 9 runs.

In their first game against the Briercrest Clippers, the Cougars came out with a big win, scoring 10 runs on 15 hits. Mikaila Etheredge contributed to these runs by hitting a whopping solo home-run in the 3rd inning. Unfortunately, the Clippers failed to capitalize on their one hit and walked away with no runs. With 10 strikeouts and a near-perfect game, Carmen Hughes took home the title of winning pitcher.

When the Cougars took on the Dawson College Buccaneers in their second game of the day, McKenzie Acton took to the mound and claimed 7 strikeouts throughout the game. Although the Buccaneers managed to score 1 run on 3 hits, they could not catch up to the Cougars, who won the game 10-1.

In the third game of the day, the Briercrest Clippers faced the Cougars once again. Nevada Smith did not give up any runs, pitching a perfect game. The Cougars’ bats and base running were on fire as well with an astounding number of hits and runs. Candice Van Horn, Destiny Kaus, Morgan Jeanot, and Terri Mosure also came away with stolen bases. The game ended in a 16-0 win for the Cougars.

After a successful day on the field on Saturday, the Cougars took on the Dawson College Buccaneers for two more games on Sunday. In game one, Carmen Hughes, Elizabeth Auger, Terri Mosure, and Mackenzie Roach all had RBIs. McKenzie Acton also hit a huge 2-run home-run in the 3rd inning. Keely Graf, Terri Mosure, and Morgan Jeanot bumped up the wheels on the bases, claiming a total of 4 stolen bases. Although Taylor Brackey hit a 2-run homerun for the Buccaneers, they fell to the Cougars 5-9 in the 7th inning. Pitcher Carmen Hughes took home the win with 12 strikeouts.

In the final game of the day, the Cougars faced the Buccaneers again. While the Buccaneers scored 3 runs on 10 hits, the Cougars scored 4 runs on 15 hits to take home the win. Terri Mosure and Carmen Hughes both had RBIs for the Cougars, and Candice Van Horn, Terri Mosure, and Destiny Kaus all had stolen bases. Nevada Smith started off the game strong on the mound, and McKenzie Acton swapped her out later in the game to finish off the win.

All in all, the Cougars had a great weekend. They hit the ball hard, they ran the bases with speed and smarts, and they backed up their offence with solid defence on the field. This week, the Cougars will play two games in Saskatoon on Tuesday against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and two games in Moose Jaw on Wednesday against the Briercrest Clippers. This coming weekend, the Cougars will be off to Saskatoon again for the last full weekend of ball before playoffs.
