West Virginia University outlasts Penn State-Altoona, 5-3, to end 2 game skid


 

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, West Virginia University survived and came away with a 5-3 victory over Penn State-Altoona.

West Virginia University gained the winning advantage on a clutch goal by Brian Dickman 13:15 into the third period and hung on until the final buzzer.

 

Ryan Agner was all over the ice for West Virginia University, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Agner scored the first of his two goals at 15:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Penn State-Altoona. Sebastian Dziadowicz picked up the assist. Agner's next tally made the score 5-3 West Virginia University with nine seconds left in the third period.

Penn State-Altoona's Ryan Cornelius could not handle what West Virginia University threw at him, as West Virginia University netted its goals off of a furious offensive outburst that finally lived up to its potential.

West Virginia University, as usual, excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. West Virginia University got most of its shots through Agner, Benjamin Monroe and Dickman, who totaled five pucks on net between them.

In addition, West Virginia University received assists from Kenneth Knoll and Sean Meyer, who contributed one each.

Penn State-Altoona's offense revolved around and Mitchell Rupprecht, who put and three shots on net. Penn State-Altoona put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow West Virginia University to score on any of its three power plays. Penn State-Altoona's offense was handcuffed by West Virginia University's defensive play, and Penn State-Altoona managed only seven shots on goal during the game.

More assists for Penn State-Altoona came via Nico Gricco, who had three.

West Virginia University incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Penn State-Altoona incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
