Fort Worth outlasts Denver, 4-3

The Fort Worth Brahmas and the Denver Cutthroats were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Fort Worth made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Ross Rouleau's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Tomas Klempa had a great game for the Brahmas, netting two goals. Klempa found the back of the net 14:44 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while short handed 3:15 into the third to make the score 3-3.

Denver's power play was ineffective against Fort Worth's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Brahmas' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Denver power plays. The 24 shots that Fort Worth put on net surpassed the Brahmas' average of 21.3 shots per game this season.

Fort Worth additionally got points from Calin Wild, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Fort Worth came via Gregg Eskedjian, Daniel Spivak, and Austin Mayer, who contributed one a piece and Sy Nutkevitch and Riley Boychuk, who each chipped in two.

The Cutthroats stifled Fort Worth's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 26 shots on goal, Denver exceeded the 21.4 shots it averages per game this year.

The Cutthroats were helped by Brent Cullaton, who had one goal and one assist. Cullaton scored 15:25 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Denver. Ben Wilson picked up the assist. Denver also got points from Luke Fulghum, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Brad Smyth also scored for Denver. Other players who recorded assists for Denver were Troy Schwab, Gabe Gauthier, and A.J. Gale, who contributed one a piece.

The Brahmas' Kristofer Westblom stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Fort Worth incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kieran Millan made 20 saves for Denver on 24 shots. The Cutthroats incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
