Mark Shroyer has been an integral part of the Monsters team since he first joined in 2011. For the 2015-2016 season, Shroyer stepped into the shoes of Michael Freeman and became the Captain. With big shoes to fill, his relentless competitive edge makes him a threat to other teams while wearing black and green. The veteran defenseman was kind enough to spend twenty minutes on the phone with Jenny MacArthur, while on the Golden Eagle charter bus traveling to today’s game in San Diego, and answered some of our questions.

With this being your last year at the junior level, are you excited for the next step?

Yes, definitely. I’m not sure what’s next for me but I’m excited to see where I end up.

 What are you looking forward to the most about next year?

I’m looking forward to a completely different atmosphere and environment.

What is your favorite part about road trips?

Just having the whole team together and getting into different shenanigans each trip.

What is your pregame routine?

Before I leave for road games, I always grab a lucky potato to take with me to the game. I warm-up playing soccer outside and I always put my gear on left to right.

What are your main goals for this season?

My main focus is playing hard for my teammates each shift and leading by example to set the tone for the team. I’m trying to play a smarter game and do whatever it takes to develop team chemistry and comradery.

Does any specific memory stick out to you as your favorite over the past 5 years as a Monster?

I got pranked my first year pretty good. We were flying out of Texas at 6pm and while I was asleep, the boys set the clock to 6pm in my room and took my phone. Our captain at the time came in and yelled at me that I was making them late for the bus so I started scrambling around trying to get my stuff together and I ran down to the lobby and asked the front desk what time it was and the lady said 3pm. The guys just sat back and laughed.
