The Dallas Jr. Stars failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Toledo Cherokee shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.
Toledo was led by Nikolas Verbosky, who had one goal. Verbosky scored 12:28 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Toledo. Tristin Snyder provided the assist.
The Cherokee's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Dallas power plays.
Toledo also got points from Tyler Zalecki, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Cody Estrel, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Toledo included Evan Heldt and Mark McGee, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Brody Duncan, who had two and Michael Pisanti, Dominic Pisanti, Zach Swanson, and Kyler Omey, who contributed one each.
Dallas could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.
The Jr. Stars were helped by Drew Hill, who grabbed one goal. Hill scored 12:56 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Toledo. Kody Wagner assisted on the tally. Dallas also got a goal from Dylan Dobbins as well. In addition, Dallas received assists from Blake McIntyre, Aaron Torres, and Travis Hall, who each chipped in one.
Aaron Callan took the win and made 17 saves before being replaced by Glen Bates who made zero saves. Toledo incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. Dallas' Chris Mallon stopped 21 shots out of the 26 that he faced.
